A Plague Story
Today, we are all dealing with something that none of us have ever experienced before in our lives, COVID-19. A pandemic that none of us were prepared for. However, this is not the first time humanity has ever dealt with a pandemic, we have dealt with these things multiple times, and only today do we have the technology to deal with it like never before. We have food delivery services, cars to get around without being near people and most people live individually in their own houses or apartments. Indeed, this should be the easiest pandemic to get through in human history, and we have the knowledge of our ancestors to get through it as well. For example, there are many pieces of literature that describe life during the black plague. There are so many books from this time that it has gained its own genre, plague literature. Plague literature in itself does not have to be specifically about the plague itself, however, it tends to be set during the plague and we are able to see how life changed for those living in it. Not only is there literature, but we also have science to get us through it as well (Plague: Past, Present, and Future). Compared to the science of previous times, we are evolutions ahead of the past. We don’t have to simply wait out a pandemic for years as we did before, now we have vaccines which are on the way by next year which will end the pandemic quickly (The COVID-19 vaccine development landscape ). So throughout this pandemic, we can rest easy knowing that humanity has gone through this trial many times and we always make it to the other side.
